Requirements

10+ years of experience in commercial transactions
Substantial in-house experience supporting sales or business development teams
Proven experience managing and developing legal teams or professionals
Strong background in contract negotiation, drafting, and commercial deal structuring
Prior experience in both law firm and in-house legal environments
Deep expertise in contract law
Familiarity in secured transactions, including lien placement and perfection
Strong communication and negotiation skills with the ability to advise senior business stakeholders
Experience in banking, fintech, or highly regulated financial services environments (Preferred)
Prior experience at a top-tier national law firm and 3+ years in-house (Preferred)
Familiarity with data privacy, true lender, and true sale considerations (Preferred)
Active bar admission in California or New York (Preferred)

Responsibilities

Lead and rebuild a high-performing commercial legal team responsible for negotiating, drafting, and managing a wide range of third-party contracts across the organization.
Serve as a key legal partner to sales and business development teams, supporting lending partnership agreements and strategic commercial initiatives.
Review, structure, and negotiate complex commercial contracts ensuring alignment with business goals and legal risk tolerance.
Provide legal guidance on contract law, lien structuring, and the perfection of security interests where applicable.
Oversee legal support for all non-investor third-party agreements across the business.
Balance individual contributor responsibilities with people management and team development activities.
Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure contracts and deal structures support scalable and compliant business growth.
