Requirements:
Knowledge of medical and legal principles of authorization, donor evaluation, and management. Ability to communicate and present information effectively and concisely within a team environment. Ability to work productively both independently and as a team participant. Proactive team player who must uphold the core values of the organization. Strong conflict management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Compassionate, conscientious, and ethical with strong interpersonal skills. Ability to deal effectively with conflict resolution, donor families in crisis, individuals or groups, and medical professionals. Maintain strong organizational skills to assess changing environments and establish priorities. Ability to handle highly stressful situations in a calm mature manner. Must provide accurate assessments of job performance and recommend changes in policies, procedures, strategies, and action plans. Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adjusts to new priorities. A degree in biological sciences or social sciences or an equivalent degree/diploma/certification as a Counselor or allied health field; or 5-year equivalent Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) experience required. At least 5-7 years of experience in working with families, counseling, bereavement, and/or crisis intervention preferred. At least 3 years experience working for an Organ Procurement Organization required.
Responsibilities:
Coach frontline team members on critical thinking and decision support. Provide guidance utilizing clinical expertise and knowledge of the organ donation process. Mentor Family Services team members and advise on operational challenges. Maintain awareness of active referrals and pending activity for optimal resource use. Participate in performance improvement initiatives and identify trends. Assist with search efforts to identify legal next of kin and verify donor registries. Obtain authorization for donation and escalate UAGA challenges. Initiate donation discussions with potential donor families. Respond to hospital referrals and provide information for legal informed authorization. Communicate with attending physicians and healthcare teams for a collaborative approach. Provide bereavement support to donor and non-donor families. Build positive professional relationships and promote organizational culture. Manage highly stressful situations calmly and professionally. Secure and maintain positive hospital leadership and staff relationships. Utilize critical thinking skills in the moment to achieve desired results. Assess donors, interpret charts, document information, and communicate findings. Facilitate donation discussions using Dual Advocacy Fundamentals. Complete all required documentation and authorization forms.
