Requirements:
8+ years of industry experience in data engineering or related fields. 2-3 years in a leadership or management role overseeing technical teams. BS and 6-12 years of work experience preferred; MS counts as 1 year of experience. Proven track record as a self-starter who identifies strategic opportunities and drives initiatives. Hands-on experience in building and managing scalable batch and real-time data pipelines. Familiarity with orchestration tools like Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster. Expertise in streaming technologies such as Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, Apache Flink, or GCP Pub/Sub. Strong knowledge of data lake architectures and technologies (e.g., AWS S3, AWS Glue, Delta Lake). Demonstrated ability to lead database performance analysis and optimization, preferably with Redshift and Postgres. Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools like CDK and Terraform. Solid software engineering foundation with proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, PHP, or Ruby. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with experience in mentoring engineers. Ability to make decisions with incomplete data and be comfortable with ambiguous situations.
Responsibilities:
Lead and mentor data engineers, providing technical guidance and career development. Architect and oversee the deployment of secure, scalable, and highly available batch and real-time data pipelines. Guide the implementation and optimization of data lake architectures. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to integrate data engineering services. Ensure the team achieves 99.99% uptime SLA for data systems. Uphold data quality, integrity, and compliance with governance standards. Manage the team's work across various technologies including Python, Postgres, AWS/GCP services, Prefect, Redis, Git, and Jira. Facilitate the team's participation in agile development processes. Handle resource allocation, project prioritization, hiring, and onboarding. Stay abreast of industry trends in data engineering and cloud technologies.
