Requirements
- Have 9+ years of software engineering experience.
- Have significant experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems, ideally data platforms, event-driven systems, or streaming infrastructure.
- Bring hands-on experience with Kafka or a similar distributed log or messaging system, including partitioning, delivery semantics, throughput, and operational tradeoffs.
- Have experience designing schema or data-contract systems, such as schema registries and serialization formats like Avro or Protobuf, and compatibility and evolution strategies.
- Have experience building control planes or platform APIs, such as declarative configuration, reconciliation, workflow orchestration, or resource provisioning; Kubernetes experience is ideal.
- Have a track record of leading ambiguous, multi-quarter projects from design through production delivery.
- Be able to set technical direction, write design documents, align multiple teams, and mentor and grow engineers.
- Have experience running large-scale production systems, including on-call, incident response, and root cause analysis.
- Write clean, testable, maintainable code.
- Familiarity with stream processing such as Flink or change data capture is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design and evolve the control plane that provisions Kafka topics, registers schemas, and deploys pipelines from declarative definitions.
- Build schema management that supports safe, backward-compatible evolution across streaming, storage, and warehouse systems.
- Improve the reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency of RTDI and Kafka, including capacity, multi-tenancy, and failure handling.
- Replace fragmented pipeline tooling with shared, self-serve platform abstractions for other teams.
- Lead design reviews and incident follow-through, and raise the engineering and operational bar for the team.
