Experience
You've managed product designers in a product-led technology company for 3+ years, with a team of five or more.

Requirements

  • Have at least 3 years of experience managing product designers in a product-led technology company.
  • Have managed a team of five or more; this is not a first management role.
  • Have run effective 1:1s, evidence-based performance reviews, and difficult feedback conversations.
  • Have built or improved a career progression framework for designers.
  • Be able to coach and mentor designers and provide examples of their measurable growth or increased scope.
  • Have strong design craft and the ability to articulate design quality.
  • Have hired designers consistently and be able to identify and attract design talent.
  • Use AI tools hands-on and have an informed view of designing AI-enabled products.
  • Have managed design teams in B2B SaaS, developer tools, workflow automation, or similarly technical products (nice to have).
  • Bring curiosity about APIs, webhooks, data structures, and workflow execution (nice to have).
  • Have experience designing for developers, technical operators, or other sophisticated users (nice to have).

Responsibilities

  • Coach designers, design engineers, and researchers through regular 1:1s.
  • Manage performance with evidence-based reviews, feedback, and support.
  • Evolve the Product Design progression framework.
  • Hire designers as the team grows and broaden the team's backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Set standards for problem framing, user understanding, interaction design, information architecture, and visual craft.
  • Facilitate design critiques and reviews that improve the work.
  • Maintain a holistic view of the product experience and identify inconsistencies and recurring UX problems.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leadership on problem definition and product direction.
  • Improve team practices for critique, collaboration, decision-making, and knowledge sharing.
