- Bring practical knowledge of A2P SMS, RCS Business Messaging, and WhatsApp Business, including pricing models, templates and conversations, sender IDs, and registration requirements.
- Have experience with cost management, vendor negotiations, commercial modeling, and per-message and per-conversion economics.
- Be able to translate operational and commercial requirements into concise product and technical requirements aligned with product and engineering strategies.
- Understand messaging performance metrics, including deliverability, latency, verification completion, cost, and provider performance, and interpret dashboards to identify actions.
- Have experience operating across emerging markets in Africa and understand local regulatory environments and differing market conditions.
- Have experience aligning internal teams, external partners, and senior executives around shared objectives.
- Bring analytical, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder-management abilities, with commercial judgment and ownership.
- Experience in highly regulated industries is an advantage.
- Familiarity with API documentation, webhooks, integration constraints, and technical dependencies is beneficial.
- Experience with additional channels or tools such as email, push, in-app messaging, USSD, chatbots, conversational AI, or CDPs is a plus.
- Experience designing or operating multi-vendor routing environments across communications providers is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Own the messaging and verification product roadmap across multiple markets.
- Define channel selection, fallback, routing, retry, and failover strategies for verification, transactional, and promotional communications.
- Evaluate new messaging channels and capabilities for market availability, permitted use cases, technical feasibility, and business value.
- Select and manage messaging aggregators, CPaaS providers, and other strategic partners; maintain supplier scorecards and hold vendors accountable.
- Negotiate pricing, volume commitments, service levels, payment terms, and contractual protections with vendors and internal stakeholders.
- Analyze messaging economics by market, channel, provider, and use case to optimize rates, supplier allocation, routing, and channel selection.
- Monitor delivery success, latency, verification completion, and messaging performance; use operational data to identify improvements.
- Establish provider-performance reporting, lead escalations and incident response, and drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Plan supplier capacity for peak events, campaigns, and market launches while reducing supplier concentration risk.
- Forecast messaging spend, track budget performance, and reduce avoidable costs from retries, duplicate messages, inefficient channel choices, suspicious traffic, and OTP abuse.
