Job Details

Have a track record as a tech lead owning a squad’s delivery and standards.
Have experience writing design documents, reviewing pull requests and ADRs, and solving problems hands-on while setting direction.
Balance hands-on work on major technical challenges with coaching junior engineers.
Hold the team to consistent quality and speed standards.
Have experience designing a team’s ways of working from scratch while balancing speed, quality, and resilience.
Have experience owning cross-team sequencing and dependencies.
Be able to diagnose throughput problems rather than only report them.
Be comfortable setting technical direction in ambiguous areas and driving blockers to resolution.
Payments systems experience is desirable.
Experience improving cost-to-process or processing efficiency in a high-volume service is desirable.
Experience scaling a service beyond its basic first version is desirable.

Own the Payments squad’s delivery outcomes and engineering standards.
Write specifications and design documents, give feedback on ADRs, review pull requests, and solve problems through code or workflows.
Set the technical architecture and direction for payments.
Improve payment accuracy and processing efficiency to reduce cost-to-process.
Define the squad’s operating model and balance speed, quality, and resilience.
Manage sequencing and dependencies, diagnose throughput issues, and make the squad’s work visible to stakeholders.
Coach junior engineers and work alongside the senior engineer on complex problems.
Flag promotion and hiring gaps to the manager and partner on people decisions.
