Requirements
- Bring 8+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Have experience using technologies such as Python or Kotlin.
- Have extensive experience building and operating highly available distributed systems.
- Have hands-on experience with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Demonstrate ability to lead the technical definition and execution of major features, system components, architectural initiatives, or system deprecations.
- Write high-quality, maintainable code that is clear and reusable by other engineers.
- Work across levels of abstraction, from low-level language behavior and implementation details to large-scale system architecture.
- Gather, incorporate, and iterate on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
- Have a bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
- Operate effectively in ambiguous environments while balancing technical quality, delivery, reliability, and business priorities.
Responsibilities
- Set the team’s technical strategy over a year-long horizon and connect it to critical projects.
- Partner with product management, design, analytics, and engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Define, communicate, and advocate for scalable technical solutions and effective operational processes.
- Own operational health and service availability by establishing monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing practices, alerting, and on-call processes.
- Establish and promote standards for code reviews, system design, engineering quality, and technical ownership.
- Communicate technical approaches and engineering standards through documentation, technical discussions, and talks.
- Support engineers’ growth through feedback, technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership by example.
- Drive major technical initiatives, including delivering significant system components and deprecating existing functionality.
