Requirements
- Bring a track record as a Staff or senior-level lead engineer.
- Have deep expertise in distributed backend systems and the practical ability to ship frontend UI surfaces or admin portals.
- Have advanced hands-on experience shipping Kotlin or equivalent JVM services on AWS and familiarity with cloud-native backend patterns.
- Have practical experience productionizing LLM frameworks and agentic architectures, including tool use, retrieval/RAG, evaluations, and context management.
- Exercise judgment about when to use an AI agent versus a traditional backend system or cron job.
- Bring extensive experience with enterprise integration frameworks, message brokers, and distributed data stores, including Apache Camel, Apache Pulsar, DynamoDB, and Dropwizard or equivalents.
- Have advanced data engineering skills across SQL, warehouse modeling, pipeline design, and relational and NoSQL data consistency.
- Balance immediate automation needs with long-term platform scalability.
- Demonstrate exceptional technical writing that explains architectural trade-offs to executive stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Architect, code, and operate high-performance backend services using Kotlin and AWS.
- Turn Finance operators’ AI prototypes into scalable, monitored, permissioned microservices with audit trails and automated error handling.
- Build internal operator tools, including backend APIs, pipelines, and lightweight user interfaces.
- Design resilient integrations across billing platforms, ERP systems, Salesforce, data warehouses, and internal Toast services.
- Engineer for SOX scope, PCI boundaries, and data-access requirements with Security, Compliance, and Audit teams.
- Own technical strategy from business problem definition through build sequencing.
- Identify when capabilities belong in core Toast platforms and drive technical cases and handoffs.
