Requirements

  • Recognised data protection qualification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM, Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection).
  • Strong working knowledge of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and relevant US legislation.
  • In-depth knowledge of children’s online privacy and ICO’s Age Appropriate Design Code (Children’s Code).
  • Strong understanding of modern software paradigms including APIs, cloud architecture (AWS/GCP), cookies/trackers, SDKs, and data pipelines.
  • Experience in an international organisation handling multi-jurisdictional data transfers.
  • Experience working within small-medium sized businesses and user-centred agile software development teams.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks related to AI governance, ethical machine learning, and accessibility.
  • Ability to translate legal requirements into practical, accessible guidance for non-specialist colleagues.
  • Experience in the charity or edtech sectors preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice to ensure compliance with digital and privacy regulation across core markets including the UK, EU, US, India, Kenya and South Africa.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product and Data teams to embed Privacy by Design and Default into workflows such as sprint planning and design reviews.
  • Coordinate DPIAs and other assessments for high-risk processing, particularly involving children’s data, AI, and online platforms.
  • Track and interpret emerging digital and privacy regulations globally and assess the adoption of novel technologies like generative AI.
  • Improve the Foundation’s information governance framework, including policies, data mapping, and third-party processor reviews.
  • Manage responses to data subject access requests (DSARs) and lead investigation/mitigation of potential data breaches.
  • Design and deliver compliance and data privacy training tailored to developers, educators, researchers, and operational teams.
