Requirements
- Staff-level engineer with 8+ years of professional hands-on experience.
- Deep experience in complex, distributed, service-based systems.
- Proven track record of optimizing performance and scale for large-dataset computation or statistical workloads.
- Strong experience with workflow orchestration, message systems, or queueing tooling.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Node/JavaScript, TypeScript, React, and Postgres.
- Experience with NoSQL stores like Firebase and caching layers such as Redis.
- Strong e2e and integration testing experience using frameworks like Playwright or Cypress.
- Hands-on experience with agentic development practices, including tight test loops and CI/CD gates.
- Ability to work with high autonomy on ambiguous, high-stakes problems.
- Strong communication skills for cross-team and business-technical collaboration.
- Ability to reside within commuting distance of Calgary.
Responsibilities
- Build and optimize workflows that run complex mathematical and statistical calculations over datasets of hundreds of thousands of records.
- Manage performance end-to-end, including query plans, indexing, batching, parallelism, and caching strategies.
- Design and build dependable orchestration systems involving queues, job scheduling, retries, and idempotent pipeline processing.
- Develop tooling to enable AI agents to execute product workflows, including data validation, analysis setup, and report generation.
- Create evaluation harnesses and guardrails to ensure agent output is reliable and trustworthy.
- Partner with engineering leadership to set and maintain standards for testing, performance, and agentic development practices.
- Improve integration and end-to-end testing coverage for complex service-based architectures.
