Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience in reinsurance accounting, insurance finance, or related discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience leading teams or managing people in accounting or insurance.
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles for reinsurance.
- Strong experience with property and casualty reinsurance and complex treaty structures.
- Previous experience preparing Schedule F and NAIC regulatory filings.
- Advanced Excel skills with experience in financial modeling and analysis.
- Strong understanding of ceded reinsurance, recoverables, premiums, claims, and commissions.
- Proven leadership, coaching, and people development skills.
- Strong project management and process improvement mindset.
- CPA certification is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the reinsurance accounting team responsible for treaty administration, premiums, claims, and settlements.
- Oversee financial reporting for reinsurance structures such as excess of loss, quota share, facultative, stop loss, and retrocession.
- Own month-end and quarter-end close processes and general ledger reconciliations.
- Prepare or oversee statutory and GAAP reporting, including Schedule F.
- Partner with actuarial, underwriting, legal, and finance teams to interpret and implement treaty provisions.
- Lead internal and external audits and maintain appropriate documentation and controls.
- Develop relationships with reinsurance brokers, reinsurers, and third-party administrators.
- Drive process improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives.
- Monitor developments in accounting standards such as ASC 944 and SSAP 62R.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to foster high performance.
