Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of experience in Health Information Management department operations.
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology, Health Information Management, or another applicable field may be substituted for experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Technology or a related discipline is preferred.
- RHIT or CHDA credentials are preferred.
- Strong understanding of legal health records, protected health information (PHI), documentation management, and retention processes.
- Proficiency in scanning, indexing, and release-of-information workflows.
- Ability to conduct or review quality assurance audits and identify data-integrity issues.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret operational data.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization abilities.
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for stakeholder collaboration.
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to sit for sustained periods and lift, push, or pull approximately 11–20 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor the lifecycle of legal health records, including electronic and paper protected health information, across designated HIM functions.
- Conduct and review quality assurance audits for optical imaging, scanning, indexing, and electronic data-entry activities.
- Analyze workflow, productivity, quality, compliance, and volume data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate the development and implementation of optimized workflows and best practices for HIM operations.
- Ensure appropriate policies are followed for the management, retention, and disposition of records.
- Provide education and communication to hospital and clinic employees regarding documentation requirements and record retention.
- Support training related to front-end scanning and documentation workflows.
- Collaborate with HIM, forms, IT, and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate information accessibility.
