Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in the United States and in good standing.
- At least 5 years of legal experience in fintech, banking, payments, or financial services.
- Expertise in payment systems and U.S. and international regulatory frameworks (money transmission, BSA/AML, PSD2, MiCA, card network rules).
- Strong understanding of payment processing, compliance requirements, and global digital commerce.
- Proven ability to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills for complex commercial agreements.
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex legal matters to non-legal stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with product, technology, and senior management teams.
- Proactive approach to identifying and mitigating legal/regulatory risks.
- Experience or interest in cryptocurrency, blockchain, NFTs, or DeFi is advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with payment service providers, banks, card networks, and strategic partners.
- Advise on end-to-end payment processing, including money flows, settlement structures, and chargebacks.
- Provide legal guidance on KYC/KYB, AML/CFT, sanctions screening, and customer due diligence.
- Support the legal and regulatory aspects of entering new markets, including licensing analysis and entity structuring.
- Advise leadership on legal implications of product launches and strategic commercial initiatives.
- Monitor and analyze legal developments in payments, digital commerce, and emerging technologies like blockchain and DeFi.
