Requirements
- Substantial experience advising a multinational company with works councils on employment matters.
- Juris Doctor (JD), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), or local equivalent.
- Admission to an applicable governing body in an EMEA jurisdiction.
- Deep knowledge of EMEA employment compliance and risk assessment.
- Experience counseling stakeholders on sensitive relations, investigations, and compensation.
- Experience drafting and negotiating employment and separation agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with GDPR and privacy requirements related to employee data.
- Experience managing employment litigation, agency investigations, and outside counsel.
- Experience building or improving legal processes, systems, and playbooks.
- Strong issue-spotting, risk-assessment, and judgment skills.
- Ability to manage a high volume of complex legal matters independently.
- Comfort working in a remote, globally distributed, asynchronous environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior, practical employment-law advice to team members and stakeholders across GitLab.
- Advise on the employment lifecycle including recruiting, onboarding, compensation, performance, leave management, and works council processes.
- Counsel People Business Partners and business leaders on sensitive team-member relations and investigations.
- Review, draft, and negotiate employment agreements, policies, and separation agreements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Monitor legal developments and identify risks related to employment, privacy, and data protection (GDPR).
- Support litigation, appeals, and agency investigations while managing outside counsel.
- Develop and improve scalable employment-law processes, playbooks, and templates.
- Mentor junior colleagues and share subject-matter expertise across the Legal and People teams.
