Requirements
- Track record of leading complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives.
- Substantial hands-on experience building and operating distributed data systems in production.
- Experience with ingestion pipelines, storage engines, or query execution.
- Strong software craftsmanship with the ability to write clean, performant, and maintainable code.
- Strong proficiency in Go, or deep experience in other systems languages like Rust, C, or C++.
- Operational mindset with experience carrying a pager and managing production services.
- Experience breaking complex problems into short feedback loops and delivering MVPs.
- Strong communication skills for a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
- Ability to lead through design documentation and collaborative reviews.
Responsibilities
- Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
- Own the architecture of core Tempo components including ingestion, storage, query, and metrics generation.
- Design APIs that are structured, deterministic, and discoverable for human and agent consumers.
- Drive operational excellence by owning outcomes against concrete SLOs and reducing toil.
- Partner with product and engineering teams to unblock downstream dependencies.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pair programming.
- Participate in on-call rotations for services built.
- Contribute to open source and engage with the community.
