Requirements
- Systems thinking: ability to reason about the whole system
- Fearless code reading: ability to drop into large, unfamiliar codebases
- Empathy for users: design with the developer and operator in mind
- Testing discipline: thorough approach to testing and shipping reliable software
- Comfort with ambiguity: ability to solve problems without predefined specifications
- Proficiency in JVM ecosystem (Java, Scala)
- Experience with Rust highly desired
- Proficiency in Python
- Proficiency in SQL and data processing (Spark or similar)
- Deep understanding of distributed systems design
- Experience in observability and resilience engineering
Responsibilities
- Dig into inherited Scala systems to find where the real problems are, separate symptoms from causes, and make them scale
- Redesign the data layer our ML and AI products depend on
- Build out a Rust framework that lets teams ship correct, performant services
- Improve observability and resilience across the platform
- Shape developer tooling and engineering standards to multiply team effectiveness
- Drive AI tool adoption across the company
- Work across the full stack: JVM (Java/Scala), Rust, Python, SQL, and Spark
