Requirements
- 8+ years of significant software engineering experience with a development background.
- Proficiency in more than one programming language, such as Kotlin and Ruby.
- Direct experience building observability or telemetry platforms and their SDKs.
- Deep understanding of event-based and high-cardinality systems, columnar or streaming backends, and sampling.
- Hands-on experience with open standards such as OpenTelemetry and design of SLIs and SLOs.
- Demonstrated ability to navigate and make significant changes in ambiguous codebases.
- Proficiency with AI coding tools such as Claude Code and modern LLMs.
- Strong communication and influence skills for cross-team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design and build the events-first foundation, including high-throughput ingest, storage, and query pipelines.
- Build instrumentation libraries, shared SDKs, and golden paths to drive consistent telemetry adoption.
- Define instrumentation conventions, tagging, sampling, and context-propagation practices based on open standards.
- Build fast query foundations and access patterns, such as MCP, to enable AI agents to investigate production incidents.
- Utilize AI coding tools and LLMs to prototype and navigate large systems.
- Mentor senior engineers, review complex designs, and lead cross-team technical initiatives through influence.
