Requirements
- 8+ years of backend or product engineering experience owning large, complex systems end-to-end at a principal level.
- 1–3 years of engineering management experience, including 1:1s, performance management, and hiring.
- Strong hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding tools like Cursor and Claude.
- Expertise in OOP fundamentals, specifically Java Spring Boot and Hibernate.
- Practical experience building or integrating AI/ML features, LLMs, and RAG-based systems in production.
- Proven experience leading system design on significant projects.
- Advanced troubleshooting and debugging skills.
- Strong relational database design and SQL optimization skills.
- Experience designing technical interviews and evaluating senior engineering candidates.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for a remote, async-first culture.
- Startup experience in an environment with little process.
- Must be able to work in European timezones (CET/CEST).
Responsibilities
- Write code (70-80% initially) and ship meaningful features to prove technical leadership.
- Take over engineering interviews, design technical challenges, and refine the hiring process to double the team size.
- Design performance evaluation frameworks that are pragmatic and measurable.
- Conduct regular 1:1s focused on output, impact, quality, and AI efficiency.
- Lead system design for major projects including backend architecture for agentic compliance workflows.
- Scale product features for mid-market customers including RBAC and sub-workspace collaboration.
- Drive AI-assisted engineering adoption across the team through hands-on collaboration.
