Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience contributing to project teams on diverse underground transmission projects while managing schedules and budget requirements.
- Proficiency with CYMCAP modeling and cable tensioning calculations or related software.
- Experience with XLPE cable design and underground transmission line engineering.
- Knowledge of cable systems, bonding schemes, ampacity calculations, and underground transmission design practices.
- Experience developing cost estimates, project schedules, technical specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Ability to review right-of-way requirements, plan and profile drawings, and construction documents.
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles, technical drawings, models, and calculation documentation.
- Familiarity with applicable standards and codes, including NESC, EPRI Green Book, IEC, CSA, IEEE, ANSI, IBC, ASCE 7, and ACI 318.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one within one year is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Design underground transmission line systems for voltages up to 500kV, including routing, duct bank configurations, and overall system layouts.
- Perform cost analyses, develop design criteria, address siting challenges, and determine optimal placement of underground infrastructure components such as manholes.
- Develop physical designs, including duct bank layouts, trenchless installation designs, cable pulling calculations, and detailed engineering drawing packages.
- Conduct cable selection studies, ampacity calculations, and bonding scheme evaluations to support reliable transmission system designs.
- Develop riser structure configurations and evaluate structural loading requirements.
- Prepare technical specifications for cable procurement, duct bank installation, trenchless construction, and related project requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors, clients, and internal teams to define transmission line components and ensure project alignment.
- Lead and support small project teams consisting of engineers, designers, and technical staff.
