Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P) required.
  • Three years of professional procedure coding experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industry guidelines and laws for professional coding.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access).
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, or pathophysiology.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to assess and provide coding education plans to staff.
  • Ability to prioritize workflow and manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision, support, and education to physician fee coding staff regarding time management, workflow delegation, and industry guidelines.
  • Perform internal quality assessment reviews to ensure coding compliance and revenue integrity.
  • Communicate directly with physicians and practitioners to provide feedback on documentation to accurately support coding.
  • Supervise the monitoring and delegation of prospective claim edits to ensure timely submission and payment.
  • Coordinate the appeals process for third-party payer denials.
  • Research coding and reimbursement issues and implement corrective measures.
  • Prepare statistical reports on coding compliance, quality assurance results, and performance improvement activities.
