Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P) required.
- Three years of professional procedure coding experience.
- Strong knowledge of industry guidelines and laws for professional coding.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Access).
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, or pathophysiology.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to assess and provide coding education plans to staff.
- Ability to prioritize workflow and manage multiple projects.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision, support, and education to physician fee coding staff regarding time management, workflow delegation, and industry guidelines.
- Perform internal quality assessment reviews to ensure coding compliance and revenue integrity.
- Communicate directly with physicians and practitioners to provide feedback on documentation to accurately support coding.
- Supervise the monitoring and delegation of prospective claim edits to ensure timely submission and payment.
- Coordinate the appeals process for third-party payer denials.
- Research coding and reimbursement issues and implement corrective measures.
- Prepare statistical reports on coding compliance, quality assurance results, and performance improvement activities.
