Requirements
- 9+ years of professional software engineering experience with depth across the full stack.
- Acute specialization in one or more areas (front-end, back-end, or infrastructure).
- Track record of contributing to technical direction and driving multi-month, cross-domain initiatives.
- Strong understanding of relational database systems (MySQL), with experience designing for scale.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and owning production services end-to-end.
- Demonstrated ability to influence architectural decisions across multiple teams.
- Excellent communication skills for describing complex tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Leadership style rooted in service and collaboration.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and building technical judgment in others.
- Comfortable co-leading technical direction alongside other senior technical voices.
Responsibilities
- Help set technical direction for the ControlCheck team, designing work that spans multiple domains (front-end, back-end, infrastructure) over months.
- Contribute to critical architectural decisions for services built on Ruby on Rails and Python FastAPI.
- Drive proactive de-coupling of services and application of microservices patterns.
- Identify and resolve complex technical problems and expert-level debugging across distributed systems.
- Lead cross-team dependency management and coordinate cross-discipline efforts with Product, QA, and adjacent engineering teams.
- Communicate large systems and technical tradeoffs clearly to engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
- Influence at the Engineering Manager level, partnering on team execution, hiring signal, and technical roadmap.
- Mentor senior engineers and serve as an escalation point for difficult technical challenges.
