Requirements
- Deep working knowledge of GitLab development workflows and platform capabilities.
- Hands-on experience designing and shipping distributed systems personally.
- Proven track record running engineering operations, production reliability, and incident management at scale.
- Demonstrated ability to drive measurable engineering productivity improvements across multiple teams.
- Experience managing multiple managers or cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools and strategies to optimize team size and throughput.
- Strong ability to context-switch between infrastructure operations, developer productivity, and crisis response.
- Expertise in staffing high-leverage teams intentionally while maintaining organizational alignment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and develop the Manager, Git & Gitaly Operations to ensure production reliability across Self-Managed, GitLab Dedicated, and SaaS.
- Oversee the Manager, Nonlinear Productivity and hold the function accountable for measurable metric improvements.
- Build and lead a senior Platform Staff team as an AI-native group to handle high-impact, ad-hoc, or crisis-level initiatives.
- Review distributed systems designs, friction-elimination fixes, and crisis management plans to set technical standards across all functions.
- Develop operating rhythms and metrics to ensure predictable outcomes without relying on unsustainable heroics.
- Represent the functions to peer engineering stakeholders and interface with customers during critical incidents.
