Requirements

  • Associate’s degree is required.
  • One year of relevant experience in behavioral health or human services preferred.
  • Ability to become certified as a Mental Health Rehabilitation Technician Crisis Service Provider (MHRT/CSP) within 30 days.
  • Ability to attend an in-person orientation in South Portland, Maine.
  • Solid oral communication skills and ability to communicate clearly in a customer-friendly manner.
  • Proficiency in documentation software and resource applications.
  • Ability to use telephone, instant messaging, and chat technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have a dedicated, quiet, and ergonomically set up workspace.
  • Must have reliable high-speed internet access.
  • Ability to pass criminal background, child protective service, and sex offender checks.

Responsibilities

  • Answer calls and text/chat messages on the crisis line.
  • Build rapport with help seekers by showing empathy and creating a safe, non-judgmental space.
  • Complete risk assessments to ensure the safety and well-being of callers.
  • Develop crisis stabilization plans utilizing clinical support.
  • Collaborate with community partners and service providers to ensure continuity of care.
