Requirements
- 8+ years of professional backend development experience in production environments.
- Proven experience leading backend teams.
- Proven experience owning backend architecture for a mobile-first, consumer-facing app.
- Strong hands-on expertise with Ruby On Rails.
- Experience building and scaling high-traffic systems (10k+ daily active users).
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, relational databases, and caching.
- Practical experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Background in a startup or fast-moving product company.
- Strong product mindset with ability to connect technical decisions to business outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of mid/senior backend engineers, including 1:1s, feedback, and performance management.
- Translate product and business goals into clear technical roadmaps, sprint plans, and backend priorities.
- Own the backend architecture and technical vision for mobile-first, consumer-facing apps.
- Drive and oversee implementation of new features while working closely with cross-functional teams.
- Take key architectural decisions regarding scalability, performance, and infrastructure on AWS.
- Modernize and improve a large Ruby on Rails codebase through version upgrades and refactoring.
- Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, improve API reliability, and design caching/database strategies.
- Establish engineering processes, coding standards, and deployment/CI pipelines.
- Maintain technical documentation and design specs for backend systems.
- Engage in hands-on coding and code reviews for complex initiatives.
