Requirements

  • 7+ years of backend engineering experience with deep hands-on Python expertise.
  • Production experience with FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Celery, Postgres, and Redis.
  • Strong AWS architecture experience including EKS, Lambda, RDS, SQS, SNS, and EventBridge.
  • Working knowledge of GCP.
  • Experience designing high-load, latency-sensitive, and geo-distributed systems.
  • Proven ability to make pragmatic judgments on build vs. buy vs. assemble options.
  • Deliberate working style: researching, weighing tradeoffs, documenting decisions, and clear communication.
  • Nice to have: Production experience with LLM integrations (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI).
  • Nice to have: Active use of agentic coding tools like Claude Code or Cursor.
  • Nice to have: Experience with EdTech or high-scale consumer platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Define backend architecture standards and lead major technical decisions across teams.
  • Drive the transition from a monolith toward a more modular, service-oriented backend.
  • Develop service blueprints covering API conventions, EDA patterns, testing, observability, and deployment.
  • Design cloud architecture on AWS and GCP including multi-region and geo-distributed solutions.
  • Optimize high-load, real-time infrastructure, focusing on latency budgets, caching, and capacity.
  • Evaluate and implement build vs. buy strategies, including managed services and no-code tools.
  • Contribute production-level code, refactors, and POCs for product-critical features.
