Requirements
- Strong embedded Linux experience, including Buildroot, Yocto, or similar environments.
- Deep understanding of Linux OS, system services, and hardware bring-up.
- Experience with bootloaders, partition layouts, and OTA update systems.
- Proficiency in reading hardware schematics and datasheets.
- Hands-on experience with cross-compilation toolchains and debugging tools (GDB, strace, JTAG, logic analyzers).
- Ability to read and write C/C++.
- Strong Python skills for automation and scripting.
- Familiarity with embedded OS security hardening practices.
- Ability to independently own complex platform areas.
- Strong debugging and methodical troubleshooting mindset.
- Ability to work effectively in distributed remote teams.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve Home Assistant OS support for Nabu Casa hardware platforms.
- Collaborate with contributors and the Open Home Foundation to improve platform support.
- Support board bring-up activities including Buildroot configuration, BSPs, and bootloader setup.
- Optimize operating-system performance, stability, and reliability.
- Maintain and improve the Buildroot-based build infrastructure.
- Investigate and resolve platform-level issues such as boot regressions, driver failures, and kernel panics.
- Upstream patches to Linux, U-Boot, Buildroot, or related open-source projects.
