Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Associate Degree in HIM or related field preferred).
- 2-4 years of experience in physician coding, professional fee coding, or medical billing.
- Current certification: Certified Coder-AHIMA, AAPC (CPC), or CCS-P.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Familiarity with NCCI edits, LCD/NCD guidelines, and medical necessity requirements.
- Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software.
- Understanding of modifier usage and place-of-service coding.
- Effective analytical and communication skills for working with providers and billing teams.
- Experience with high-volume or surgical coding is preferred.
- Additional certifications such as CEMC or RHIT are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assign accurate CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 codes based on provider documentation.
- Ensure compliance with NCCI edits, LCDs, and NCDs.
- Perform coding audits and quality reviews to verify documentation accuracy.
- Resolve coding-related claim edits and holds in billing systems like Athena Collector.
- Collaborate with physicians and revenue cycle teams to address documentation gaps.
- Escalate coding issues to the education team to support provider training.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient and financial data in accordance with HIPAA.
