Requirements

  • High School diploma required; some college helpful.
  • 1-3 years of clerical and customer service experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance plans preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines with high accuracy.
  • Proficiency with computer systems, keyboarding, and 10-key calculator.
  • Ability to push, pull, or lift 50 lbs regularly.
  • Ability to perform physical movements such as gripping, reaching, bending, kneeling, twisting, and squatting.
  • Ability to engage in prolonged standing and walking during shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate all components of the patient's entrance into any Mercy facility.
  • Manage patient scheduling, registration, and benefit verification.
  • Handle pre-certification and financial clearance, including pre-visit collections.
  • Obtain and populate accurate patient data into electronic patient records.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance carriers, Medicare guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
