- Ability to reason about hazards lacking historical data or established paradigms.
- Proven track record of running independent projects from framing to delivery.
- Strong publication record or body of work on technological risk or resilience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication for technical and non-specialist audiences.
- Substantive grounding in modern AI capabilities and trajectories.
- Ability to work self-directed with high-leverage problems.
Responsibilities
- Conduct structured horizon-scanning for novel AI-enabled hazard classes and develop threat reasoning methodologies.
- Investigate next-generation detection sciences, such as dynamic pathogen surveillance.
- Pursue feasibility analyses on deep resilience and lifeline capacities.
- Analyze biosphere-scale vulnerabilities including environmental toxicology and geoengineering.
- Identify defensive and transparency-enhancing technologies whose acceleration favors humanity.
- Develop scientific metaresearch regarding evidence generation and aggregation.
- Build scientific coordination capacity through standards and cross-border relationships.
- Co-author grant applications and translate technical findings for diverse audiences.
