Requirements
- Possess a nationally recognized coding certificate such as CCA, CCS, or CPC.
- Minimum of one year of professional coding work experience.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding guidelines and practices.
- Proficiency in computer data entry and electronic medical record systems.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage confidential information.
Responsibilities
- Assign and sequence ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes for inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory, and emergency room records.
- Review and analyze medical records to identify documentation deficiencies and ensure accuracy.
- Verify medical necessity for ordered tests and procedures.
- Abstract clinical data for tracking, reporting, and reimbursement purposes.
- Communicate with providers and hospital staff to support documentation compliance.
- Perform timely follow-up on accounts on hold.
- Coordinate with Patient Access to ensure accurate billing and demographic data.
- Meet productivity standards set by the Revenue Integrity Coding department.
