Requirements

  • RHIT or RHIA or CCS Certification.
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (or CDIP).
  • Bachelor Degree in healthcare related field or current enrollment in program.
  • Five years of coding experience.
  • Prior experience working with clinical documentation teams.
  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and interpersonal skills.
  • Planning and time management skills.
  • Experience in education/training.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with clinical documentation team to identify documentation improvement opportunities in inpatient accounts.
  • Assesses DRG, PDx, secondary Dx, PCS, and POA components impacting quality metrics.
  • Ensures coding practices remain compliant with regulations.
  • Identifies educational opportunities and serves as an expert educator for medical staff and coders.
  • Develops strategic plans to impact clinical dashboards and secures interdepartmental support.
  • Analyzes data to construct action plans and develops teaching tools.
  • Partners with leadership and medical directors to execute advanced projects like Mortality Review and HAC/PSI Review.
  • Collaborates with IT, Analytics, and Innovation to design workflow solutions.
