Requirements
- High School diploma required; Associates or BS degree preferred.
- Active CPC or CCS-P certification in good standing.
- Minimum 5 years recent hands-on physician coding experience.
- Minimum 3 years recent coding experience in Trauma Surgery.
- Expertise in E/M services including teaching physician scenarios, split/shared services, and incident-to billing.
- Proficiency in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Proficiency in CPT, ICD-10, modifiers, and surgical techniques.
- Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing policies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Windows.
- Proficiency with electronic healthcare record and billing systems.
Responsibilities
- Review and accurately code Trauma Surgery and E/M cases to maximize reimbursement in a timely manner.
- Review and accurately code E/M visits and office procedures.
- Work independently and research coding scenarios.
- Meet daily production goals and a 95% accuracy rate.
- Attend conference calls for feedback and information.
- Communicate with leadership regarding coding documentation trends.
- Stay current on surgery-specific coding guidelines.
- Participate in departmental and education meetings.
- Expand coding skill sets into other specialties.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
