Requirements
- Track record of leading complex, multi-quarter initiatives.
- Substantial experience building and operating distributed data systems in production.
- Strong software craftsmanship skills.
- Proficiency in Go or deep experience in Rust, C, or C++.
- Operational mindset with experience owning production services and carrying a pager.
- Customer-focused and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
- Strong communication skills in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction on hard problems and raise the bar across the team.
- Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout.
- Own the architecture of core Tempo components including ingestion, storage, and query.
- Design APIs for humans and agents for Grafana stack products.
- Drive operational excellence and push toward Zero Ops.
- Partner with PMs and sibling teams to understand and ship features.
- Mentor engineers through code review and design feedback.
- Participate in on-call for supported services.
- Contribute to open source community and steering.
