Requirements
- Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
- Meet Secretary of the Interior (SOI) qualifications for archaeology (preferred).
- Reside in Arizona or New Mexico.
- Hold or be eligible for permits (BLM, State Lands, ASM).
- Experience with southwestern archaeology.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in variable terrain and environments.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of archaeological monitoring, survey, and excavation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct archaeological monitoring, survey, testing, and excavation for Phase I, II, and III studies.
- Record and evaluate historic and prehistoric cultural resources.
- Maintain accurate field notes, maps, drawings, and logs.
- Collect and inventory artifacts, ecofacts, and samples.
- Perform daily quality control of field data.
- Use electronic and traditional navigational equipment for fieldwork documentation.
- Photo-document artifacts, features, and excavation progress.
- Travel for extended periods.
