Requirements

  • Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field.
  • Meet Secretary of the Interior (SOI) qualifications for archaeology (preferred).
  • Reside in Arizona or New Mexico.
  • Hold or be eligible for permits (BLM, State Lands, ASM).
  • Experience with southwestern archaeology.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in variable terrain and environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Knowledge of archaeological monitoring, survey, and excavation.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological monitoring, survey, testing, and excavation for Phase I, II, and III studies.
  • Record and evaluate historic and prehistoric cultural resources.
  • Maintain accurate field notes, maps, drawings, and logs.
  • Collect and inventory artifacts, ecofacts, and samples.
  • Perform daily quality control of field data.
  • Use electronic and traditional navigational equipment for fieldwork documentation.
  • Photo-document artifacts, features, and excavation progress.
  • Travel for extended periods.
