Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of public relations experience with a track record in media relations and earned media strategy
  • Experience working across multiple sectors, ideally healthcare, technology, Native/Indigenous affairs, or corporate social responsibility
  • Proven experience as an organizational spokesperson or in coaching executives for media engagements
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Strong existing relationships with journalists and media contacts or ability to build them rapidly
  • Deep cultural competency and sensitivity regarding Indigenous communities
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary media relations lead, cultivating and maintaining relationships with journalists, editors, and producers
  • Identify earned media opportunities including trend-jacking, expert commentary, op-ed placements, and awards
  • Collaborate with clinical and healthcare divisions to create communication strategies
  • Manage all media inquiries, coordinate interviews, and oversee message development
  • Serve as a primary organizational spokesperson for media interviews, events, and panels
  • Develop and deliver spokesperson training and media coaching for executives
  • Write and edit press releases, media advisories, bylines, and op-eds
  • Prepare crisis communications plans and manage official crisis responses
