Requirements
- BS / BA college degree or relevant experience
- 10+ years of experience building and operating distributed systems in high-availability, customer-facing environments
- Architected and scaled large backend systems across multiple teams or product areas
- Deep expertise in distributed systems design (consistency models, fault tolerance, scaling patterns, observability)
- Hands-on experience designing and scaling multi-region environments in AWS or GCP
- Strong experience with containerized systems (Kubernetes, EKS/GKE, ECS)
- Fluent in infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Terraform or Pulumi
- Strong API and service architecture experience
- Led performance optimization efforts at scale
- Backend-leaning, but comfortable navigating full product stacks (TypeScript, Node, Go)
- Demonstrated the ability to influence technical direction beyond your immediate team
- Known for thoughtful system design and pragmatic decision-making
- Mentor senior engineers and elevate architectural thinking across an organization
Responsibilities
- Partner with engineering leadership, EMs, and Product Managers to define and deliver AI products across a broad set of user scenarios
- Architect scalable, high-performance systems that support a growing number of AI-powered products
- Drive technical strategy and make architectural decisions that compound - enabling the team to ship more AI experiences faster
- Own the engineering quality, reliability, and performance of AI products as complexity and scale increase
- Define long-term backend and infrastructure architecture for major product initiatives
- Ensure systems are designed for durability, scalability, observability, and cost efficiency
- Identify architectural risks early and drive alignment on sustainable solutions
- Architect and contribute to large-scale, backend-heavy product systems end-to-end
- Lead API and service design strategy across domains
- Improve system performance (latency, throughput, load handling) and guide tooling decisions
- Raise the bar in system design reviews across multiple teams
- Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code, automation, and cloud best practices
- Improve incident response maturity and operational excellence
- Mentor senior engineers and grow architectural capability across the org
