Engineering Manager - Payments Platform

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience 8+ years professional experience in the software industry At least 1 year of management experience while keeping coding skills strong Professional experience with Go or Python preferred Comfortable using Docker for local software development Familiar with modern, scalable system architectures Experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases (writing ANSI SQL) Familiar with API design tools/languages (Protocol Buffers, Swagger, OpenAPI) Cloud computing & Kubernetes (or similar container orchestration) preferred Deep hands-on experience with Stripe APIs Experience with Adyen's payment platform Understanding of PCI compliance requirements and secure handling of cardholder data Familiarity with ACH payment flows and NACHA file formats Experience with payment failure handling, retry strategies, and decline management Understanding of payment reconciliation and dispute/chargeback workflows Experience with payment IVR solutions (PCI Pal or similar) is a plus Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle Ability to track key metrics and meet SLAs Ability to understand complex technical problems and identify risks Ability to contribute changes to team's codebases Highly organized and detail-oriented Proven track record of building and retaining high-performing teams Strong problem-solving abilities Excellent communication and collaborative attitude End-to-end ownership mentality

Lead backend software engineers responsible for payment processing infrastructure Partner with Product Managers, Finance, Compliance, and external partners on payment solutions Develop and support solutions for premium collection, disbursements, and financial reconciliation Collaborate with teams to plan and execute the product roadmap Scale payments infrastructure, building reliable, PCI-compliant capabilities Support multiple payment methods, automated reconciliation, and partner integrations Contribute production-level code (approx. 20%) Participate in system design and architecture decisions Review pull requests and provide feedback Partner with engineers on technical challenges Drive large initiatives from conception to delivery Own Stripe and Adyen integrations Lead PCI compliance efforts Design card and ACH payment flows Build financial reporting infrastructure Implement payment failure handling Drive payment operations improvements Orchestrate engineering ceremonies Create personalized growth plans for team members Provide constructive feedback Balance technical excellence with business objectives Make sound technical trade-off judgments Communicate complex technical concepts clearly
