Senior Backend Engineer (AI Feature Builder), Europe

7+ years of relevant experience as a Backend Engineer. At least 3+ years in Ruby on Rails preferred. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Strong experience with at least one major backend framework (e.g., Ruby on Rails preferred; FastAPI, Flask, or Express is a plus). Experience with PostgreSQL; familiarity with NoSQL or vector databases is a plus. Experience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD best practices. Solid understanding of design patterns, development best practices, object-oriented design, algorithms, and data structures. Knowledge of tools such as Redis, Sidekiq, Memcached, or equivalents. Experience with RESTful services and microservices; exposure to GraphQL is a plus. Proficiency with Git and modern development workflows. Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (AWS preferred; GCP or Azure a plus). Familiarity with modern AI/ML services or data-intensive workflows is desirable. Ability to write efficient, secure, well-documented, and clean code. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Drive the next generation of Storyblok’s customer-facing products and features by building scalable and reliable backend systems. Contribute to the performance and scalability of our APIs, optimizing queries and data models. Design and implement data workflows that may involve relational, NoSQL, or vector databases. Collaborate on integrating AI-driven features and services. Implement automated testing as part of development workflows. Develop a thorough understanding of our codebase and domain, share knowledge proactively with colleagues, and contribute to documentation. Proactively address bugs and production issues for our customers. Work closely with product owners, designers, and other stakeholders to understand and translate business requirements into technical solutions. Actively participate in thoughtful code reviews and mentor more junior engineers. Act as a strong team player, helping teammates overcome obstacles.
