Electrical Substation Engineer

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET accredited college or university. 4+ years of relevant substation experience. Fundamentals of engineering (FE) certification. Professional engineering licensure (preferred). 6+ years of relevant substation experience (preferred). Strong familiarity with industry codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA etc.). Experience with California Electric Utilities (preferred). Experience with retrofit or brown field projects (preferred). Strong written and verbal skills with an ability to lead engineering tasks. Experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish (preferred). Startup and Commissioning Field Experience (preferred). Power systems analysis software experience (SKM, EasyPower, ETAP) (preferred). Exposure to supporting renewable generation projects (preferred). Success in working with remote teams (preferred).

Support electrical engineering design work on assigned projects under senior staff guidance. Develop substation and switching station physical design (AIS, GIS). Create substation general arrangement drawings, one-line diagrams, and protective relay diagrams. Develop AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, and connection diagrams. Prepare Bill of Materials and Cable Schedules. Perform calculations for grounding, cable sizing, and lightning protection. Conduct power system studies including load flow, short circuit, and arc flash analysis. Develop Basis of Design documents and equipment specifications. Work with senior staff on design schedules and budgets. Support projects during construction, start-up, and commissioning. Review engineering work performed by peers. Participate in field walks, take measurements, and climb ladders as necessary.
