Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (Residency) Transition-to-Practice Program

A master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited graduate program in psychiatric mental health nursing Appropriate CA-state licensure: unrestricted active California PMH-NP License and unrestricted California DEA with schedules II-V ANCC Board Certification Preparedness for participation in a transition-to-practice program, including ability to commit to a full-time schedule, which includes attending meetings, educational intensives, and independent synchronous learning initiatives Strong organizational and time-management skills Knowledge of fundamental psychiatry principles, philosophies, and practices Familiarity with current DSM-V criteria as well as diagnostic capabilities Understanding of crisis assessment tools and risk assessment techniques Eagerness for ongoing learning and ability to apply acquired knowledge in a clinical setting Excellent verbal and written communication skills Exceptional listening skills and emotional intelligence Willingness and ability to work as part of a cohesive team Proven technical ability and comfort with learning new technologies Familiarity with Google Suite and comfort with navigating an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system

Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders by conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations Design personalized treatment plans Prescribe medication Assess treatment outcomes Manage a progressively increasing caseload throughout the program, consisting of independent medication management sessions, evaluations, assessments, and follow-ups Conduct 60-minute intake sessions and 15- to 30-minute follow-up appointments, with brief supportive therapy provided during 30-minute sessions Manage 45- to 60-minute transfer appointments as well as provide intermittent coverage for fellow providers’ appointments Create comprehensive assessments and treatment plans with proper documentation Participate in weekly meetings with the Psychiatry Team
