About People Powered
People Powered is a global hub for participatory democracy. Our mission is to expand people’s power to make government decisions, by supporting organizations and governments that are building participatory democracy around the world. We’re like a global union for participatory democracy workers.
We're a people powered organization building people powered government. Our dozens of member organizations and board members around the world drive our work and decide what we do. Together, we're building a participatory democracy in which community members make the policy decisions that affect their lives, together with government. In practice, this looks like programs such as participatory budgeting, participatory policy-making, participatory planning, and citizen assemblies. We support this work by sharing and developing resources, building the capacity of local organizations and leaders, and advocating for policy changes. We focus on supporting organizations and advocates with the greatest needs, especially those in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.
At People Powered you will join a supportive, engaged, and emotionally mature team. Our staff are based around the world, with the majority speaking English as a second language. We are grounded in our core values of collaboration, equity, inclusion, learning, and problem-solving. All staff participate actively in organizational planning and decision-making, including through two in-person organizational retreats or convenings per year. We prioritize the well-being and growth of our people, with an emphasis on maintaining healthy personal ecology and supporting professional learning and development. 100% of staff report that they would recommend working at People Powered to a friend.
People Powered is an Equal Opportunity Employer, strongly committed to building a staff that represents the diversity of communities that we support.
