Requirements
- Hold a degree in computer science, software engineering, information systems, or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience.
- Have engineering management experience, including ownership of hiring, performance, and team delivery.
- Have depth in Python or Java and working fluency in the other language.
- Be able to review pull requests, ask relevant technical questions, and contribute directly to code.
- Have experience taking prototype or notebook work into a production system that you then had to run.
- Have hands-on PostgreSQL scaling experience, including query tuning, indexing, and schema design.
- Be able to read query plans, identify problematic queries, and fix them.
- Apply sound technical judgment and explain reasoning so the team can act on it.
Responsibilities
- Hire, mentor, and grow the engineering team, including recruiting senior engineers and running performance conversations.
- Set technical direction for the Django and Django REST Framework service, Java optimization and services work, and Flink and Kafka streaming pipelines.
- Decide when research approaches are ready for production or need rethinking, then guide them into production.
- Own the Django service's data model, API surface, performance, and reliability on PostgreSQL.
- Review pull requests and maintain the bar for what ships.
- Run design reviews, planning, and postmortems.
- Ensure work crossing team lines has an owner before it starts.
