Requirements
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience.
- Three or more years of engineering management experience, ideally with responsibility for multiple teams or other engineering managers.
- Experience building and scaling product-facing platforms, foundational application services, or shared engineering infrastructure.
- Technical depth to review architecture, challenge design decisions, and collaborate with staff-level engineers.
- Demonstrated success recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, and career progression.
- Experience defining technical strategy and roadmaps across multiple teams and aligning engineering priorities with product requirements.
- Strong knowledge of modern cloud platforms, preferably AWS, Kubernetes, distributed systems, and scalable software architecture.
- Strong product judgment and experience delivering platform capabilities that improve customer outcomes, accelerate product development, or create measurable business value.
- Experience making build-versus-buy decisions and determining whether capabilities should be shared platform services, owned by product teams, or sourced externally.
- Preferred: Experience leading teams that build AI-native platforms, including agent frameworks, model orchestration systems, or applications powered by large language models.
- Preferred: Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS products and dedicated single-tenant enterprise deployments.
- Preferred: Experience as an early or founding platform engineering leader at a vertical SaaS, enterprise software, or AI-focused company.
Responsibilities
- Build, lead, and develop a platform engineering team of approximately 10 engineers through recruitment, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and career development.
- Define the platform vision, technical strategy, and roadmap for core services, shared components, APIs, and internal developer tooling.
- Own architectural strategy for multi-tenant SaaS, enterprise single-tenant, and government-cloud environments.
- Partner with product, design, AI engineering, and infrastructure stakeholders to translate business and customer requirements into platform investments.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve development velocity, system reliability, architectural consistency, and application quality.
- Establish engineering standards for service design, data modeling, API development, and platform integration.
- Oversee the internal developer platform, including deployment infrastructure, developer productivity tools, and AI-assisted or agentic engineering capabilities.
- Maintain operational excellence by defining reliability targets, overseeing incident response and on-call practices, and improving delivery predictability.
- Establish team performance metrics and communicate technical decisions, priorities, risks, and trade-offs to executive leadership.
