Requirements

  • Have at least four years of experience building and shipping production software, with strong backend engineering fundamentals.
  • Bring experience with Python and/or Go; these languages are preferred.
  • Have hands-on experience developing and maintaining third-party API integrations, including REST and SOAP services, webhooks, OAuth, API-key authentication, pagination, rate limiting, and upstream schema changes.
  • Have experience designing or maintaining data pipelines and workflow orchestration, including scheduling, sequencing, retries, monitoring, and failure recovery.
  • Have strong SQL skills and the ability to understand data models, transformations, validation rules, and data quality challenges.
  • Be familiar with HRIS, ATS, CRM, or ERP platforms and their data models.
  • Communicate technical decisions, integration behavior, and troubleshooting procedures clearly through documentation.
  • Understand security, privacy, and compliance principles for handling sensitive employee or compensation information.
  • Be able to analyze third-party documentation, trace data issues across pipelines, and resolve ambiguous problems independently.
  • For candidates based in Calgary, be able to work legally in Alberta without current or future visa sponsorship.
  • Frontend technologies such as TypeScript and React, iPaaS tools such as Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, Tray.io, or Celigo, and orchestration engines such as Temporal or Airflow are preferred.
  • Experience with large-scale file-based ingestion using SFTP, CSV, or flat-file pipelines is an additional advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and optimize integration platforms for secure, reliable data exchange across enterprise systems.
  • Build and manage integrations, connectors, APIs, and automated workflows connecting HRIS, ATS, payroll, CRM, ERP, and other third-party applications.
  • Develop API integrations that handle authentication, pagination, rate limits, schema changes, and partial failures.
  • Improve data ingestion pipelines and workflow orchestration to support large datasets, faster refreshes, and reliable performance as data volumes grow.
  • Work across Go-based APIs, Temporal workflows, Python transformation engines, distributed services, and customer-facing frontend applications.
  • Implement error handling, monitoring, retries, and recovery mechanisms to make integration failures easier to diagnose and resolve.
  • Improve customer-facing visibility into data mappings, ingestion results, synchronization status, and error messages.
  • Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineering, Implementation, Customer Success, Product, and engineering teams to understand customer needs and expand platform capabilities.
  • Establish integration standards, technical documentation, reusable development patterns, and governance practices.
  • Investigate cross-system issues, trace data discrepancies through pipelines, and implement sustainable solutions.
