Requirements
- Have 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale.
- Use backend programming languages such as Python or Kotlin.
- Have experience developing highly available distributed systems.
- Have experience with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Have experience supporting scale-up and scale-down for large sales events, such as Prime Day or Black Friday/Cyber Monday.
- Have tuned autoscaling, CPU and memory, and multithreading for compute-type workloads.
- Have experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with simple, extensible designs.
- Write high-quality code that is understandable and usable by others.
- Be proficient in making significant changes in a large codebase and developing tools and practices to do so safely.
- Have equivalent practical experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field.
Responsibilities
- Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team.
- Lead engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems and support them throughout delivery.
- Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics during ideation and product development.
- Articulate technical constraints and partner on decisions that consider risks and trade-offs.
- Identify project, process, technology, and business issues and lead efforts to solve them.
- Create and monitor metrics, escalate operational concerns, and support on-call and keep-the-lights-on efforts.
- Set or improve code review and design standards, and advocate for standards through writing and tech talks.
- Develop team talent by providing feedback and guidance and leading by example.
