Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, public affairs, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Approximately 7 or more years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, public affairs, media relations, strategic communications, or a related discipline.
- Experience managing employees, consultants, vendors, budgets, or complex cross-functional initiatives.
- Demonstrated success developing and executing communications or marketing strategies that improve visibility, engagement, participation, or public influence.
- Experience building journalist relationships, pitching stories, developing press materials, and preparing executives for interviews and public appearances.
- Knowledge of social media strategy, digital engagement, audience development, editorial planning, campaign execution, and performance analytics.
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills, including translating complex research, policy, and organizational priorities into accessible messages.
- Experience overseeing vendors, evaluating resource allocation, managing spending, and assessing the value of communications initiatives.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms, digital engagement tools, and analytics systems; Salesforce experience is an advantage.
- Ability to work remotely, collaborate regularly during Eastern Time core hours, and coordinate across time zones.
- Ability to travel approximately 20%–25% for organizational meetings, conferences, media engagements, partner activities, and other events.
- Experience in nonprofit organizations, government, financial services, economic policy, or another mission-driven environment is beneficial but not required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead integrated marketing and public affairs strategies aligned with organizational, programmatic, policy, and revenue objectives.
- Build journalist relationships and oversee media strategies, press releases, statements, opinion pieces, and media pitches.
- Prepare senior leaders for media appearances, speeches, panels, and other external engagements.
- Lead digital communications across social media, email, and web channels; manage editorial calendars and audience growth objectives.
- Plan and execute campaigns, announcements, reports, and events, coordinating creative work and promotion.
- Manage, coach, and develop staff, consultants, creative agencies, and external vendors.
- Collaborate with policy, research, programs, business development, finance, and senior leadership teams.
- Monitor team capacity, grant-funded communications obligations, budgets, competing priorities, and risks.
- Support fundraising, donor stewardship, partnership visibility, and business development with promotional assets and audience insights.
- Establish performance indicators, analyze results, optimize advertising spend, and report the function's impact to senior leadership and the Board.
