Requirements
- Have 7+ years of software development experience, including technical ownership of a production system or platform area.
- Bring strong Python skills and experience with production SaaS applications.
- Have experience building software on top of Kubernetes, such as operators, controllers, or deployment tooling.
- Understand Kubernetes reconciliation loops, custom resources, and the Kubernetes API.
- Have experience building application observability, including error reporting, distributed tracing, metrics, and structured logging.
- Have hands-on experience with several delivery-stack tools: AWS, Kubernetes and Helm, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD or FluxCD, Terraform, and Prometheus and Grafana.
- Have experience leading engineering work without formal manager authority, including mentoring engineers.
- Have hands-on experience building inside an AI-augmented development harness, including Claude Code and reliable agentic-tooling workflows.
- Be able to make technical decisions under ambiguity and drive work across team boundaries, from RFC writing through cross-team migrations.
- Django and Postgres experience are preferred.
- Rust or Go programming experience is a nice to have.
- Familiarity with the NetBox ecosystem or network automation is a nice to have.
- Experience with self-managed or on-premises delivery is a nice to have.
Responsibilities
- Design and build software that installs, upgrades, and runs NetBox, including Kubernetes operators, controllers, internal APIs, and release tooling.
- Contribute to NetBox and its core plugins to improve production performance and reliability.
- Build observability into the software the team owns and establish standards for testing, documentation, and SLOs.
- Own the technical direction and architecture for building, releasing, and running NetBox on Cloud and Enterprise.
- Lead and mentor engineers, including the team's SRE, through design and code review.
- Work with NetBox Core and the Cloud, Enterprise, and Foundations teams to define release contracts and drive cross-team changes through RFCs.
- Act as a technical escalation point during incidents and ensure postmortem actions are completed.
