Requirements
- Hold a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Maintain an active license in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Have approximately five years of relevant professional experience or equivalent experience.
- Demonstrate legal research, regulatory analysis, issue-spotting, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, including translating complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical business recommendations.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and build trusted relationships across business and legal teams.
- Develop expertise in new and evolving subject areas while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Preferred: experience supporting employee benefits products, including statutory Paid Family & Medical Leave, disability insurance, group insurance, leave management, or accident and health insurance.
- Preferred: insurance industry experience, particularly with an insurance carrier or a law firm focused on insurance regulatory matters.
- Preferred: experience interpreting and applying state and federal insurance laws and regulations and providing regulatory, compliance, or legal guidance for insurance products and operations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, research, interpret, and assess state and federal laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance affecting Paid Family & Medical Leave, disability, and other employee benefits products.
- Provide legal and compliance guidance on product development, operations, claims, distribution, implementation, and related business activities.
- Support the development, launch, administration, and ongoing compliance of employee benefits and group insurance products.
- Review policy forms, certificates, riders, marketing and training materials, and business processes for regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regulatory research and support insurance department filings, reporting obligations, inquiries, examinations, complaints, claim appeals, arbitrations, and other regulatory matters.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify compliance risks, evaluate regulatory implications, and develop practical solutions.
- Represent Compliance on cross-functional projects, strategic initiatives, and product development efforts.
- Develop and deliver training, educational resources, and guidance on regulatory requirements and emerging compliance issues.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments through industry and trade organizations and communicate impact assessments and recommendations.
- Support compliance policies, procedures, controls, and governance frameworks for regulatory risk management.
