Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Hold CPA certification.
  • Have 7–10 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Client Lead, Manager, or team leadership position.
  • Bring deep working knowledge of GAAP and experience addressing accounting complexities common to startups and high-growth companies.
  • Have experience with SAFEs, convertible instruments, ASC 606, equity compensation, and other startup-specific accounting matters.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage a team and client portfolio while maintaining quality, responsiveness, and client service.
  • Have coaching and feedback skills and experience developing junior and mid-level accounting professionals.
  • Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills for senior client interactions.
  • Be proficient with QuickBooks Online; experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar accounting platforms is preferred.
  • Have experience in public accounting at Manager level or in outsourced accounting leadership; this is strongly preferred.
  • Have experience in a remote professional services environment; this is strongly preferred.
  • Be able to lead remotely by setting clear expectations, maintaining structured communication rhythms, and holding team members accountable.

Responsibilities

  • Coach Client Leads on solution design, client management, delivery strategy, technical judgment, and professional standards.
  • Review client engagement approaches for technical risks, complexity, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for delivery challenges, client concerns, capacity issues, and other risks.
  • Ensure the team's accounting work and client deliverables meet established quality standards.
  • Conduct performance reviews and career development conversations with direct reports.
  • Identify capability gaps and address them through coaching, training, mentoring, and other development resources.
  • Balance workloads across Client Leads and adjust team resources for close periods, changing client demands, and coverage needs.
  • Maintain a focused client portfolio to remain technically current and serve as a coaching and escalation resource.
  • Promote cross-training, documentation, and knowledge sharing across client engagements.
  • Communicate recurring delivery issues, client patterns, operational risks, and improvement opportunities to senior leadership.
